We recently caught up with Mr. Clivio and had a quick convo regarding his recent accomplishment and this is what he had to say.
Q: Your career path to become director of golf was unorthodox. After establishing a successful livelihood in the plastics business, you walked away. Tell us about that career choice.
A: I left a good paying job to make $8.50 an hour, I wanted to work at St. Andrews Country Club that bad! One of the things that makes St Andrews so great is the mutual respect between members and management. We’re all part of the same team to make the club the best it can be every day. St. Andrews has an incredible reputation when it comes to employee loyalty. Most employees and staff have been with the club for their entire career. People don’t want to leave because we make it such a great place to work.
Now 23 years later I’m not only the director of golf but about to become president of the SE Florida chapter of the PGA.
Q: You were recently awarded the 2017 Professional of the Year Award from Callaway Golf Company. How do you feel about such a prestigious honor?
A: I accredit my success to the values my parents instilled in me, especially regarding customer service. My mother is a strong, very customer oriented person who taught me about working with people, listening to what they are saying and really understanding their needs. It’s not about being a great golfer, but more about becoming a better person every day.
Another thing I accredit is the high standard of Callaway products, and of the club itself. The Golf Performance Center helps golfers find the perfect fit by recording their swings on camera and then play them back to pinpoint issues.
